The 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is out on the newstands and one of the locations for this year’s shoot was one of my favourite spots to photograph – Banff, Alberta, Canada. The photographer for the Banff shoot was Stephan Wurth. Unlike Stephan I’ve never had the opportunity to photograph beautiful scantly clad super models in the National Park but I have enjoyed photographing the natural beauty of the area for many years now. The pristine beauty of the area is awe inspiring so it’s not hard to see why SI chose Banff as a backdrop. The shoot happened last July and the exposure is considered to be a major tourism coup for the area. According to the Edmonton Journal, “The famed swimsuit issue annually finds its way into the hands of 60 million adults, or one in three Americans over the age of 18. It reaches more men in the 18-to-34 category than the Super Bowl.”
Here’s a video that I’m guessing will give a nice little bump to the tourism industry in the area. I agree with model and volleyball player Kim Glass when at the end of the video she says, “It’s awesome out here!”. Indeed it is Kim. And I’m so thankful Banff is in the little corner of the world I call home.
